The pandemic canceled Boston Blockchain Week altogether in 2020 and made it a virtual event in 2021. This year, the event is coming back in person in Downtown Quincy Center from Wednesday, Sept. 21 to Friday, Sept. 23, followed by a two-day hackathon over the weekend.
The main organizer of this year's blockchain bonanza is Qubic Labs, a Quincy startup incubator that zeroed in on blockchain and fintech technology since launching in 2020 as a hub for government tech and civic tech startups as well.
Quincy city councilor Ian Cain, co-founder and chairman of Qubic Labs, told the Boston Business Journal that Qubic Labs raised close to $400,000 in support of the event from its sponsors, which include the City of Quincy, Boston blockchain company Algorand, FoxRock, Fidelity Center for Applied Technology and Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.
As of Thursday, more than 500 people had registered for the event, according to Cain. General attendee tickets are $50.
