As annoying as crypto-bros are, don’t overlook good deals on retired cryptomining GPUs.
The reality is that anyone that was using a GPU for cryptomining will have severely underclocked the GPU core and moved towards overclocking the memory instead. This means the core itself will have been exposed to a much smaller heat load than a comparable ‘gamer’ GPU.
The small caveat is that the memory IS being overclocked in a mining scenario, so there will have been more heat on the memory modules. That said, that heat will have been constant, not wildly fluctuating from active sessions to idle periods, so much less thermal cycling meaning the memory overclock should be a non-issue. Miners won’t have pushed the memory overclock too far either, since that would introduce errors in the hashing and slowed down their mining.
These used crypto GPUs are a solid product and will serve any buyer very well. I would just advise avoiding any specific models that are known for having poor memory cooling...
