While the whole NFT thing appears to be mercifully on the decline, there are still companies out there—like Square Enix—trying to justify partnering with technology that exists solely as an enormous scam. Mojang is clearly not one of them.
In a lengthy statement published on Minecraft’s site, the team go into great detail explaining both why they haven’t embraced the technology to date, and why they’ve taken the steps to ban any implementation of anything blockchain-related in Minecraft.
While including a brief caveat saying , hey, if blockchain can ever prove it’s anything other than a huge grift then maybe we’ll look at it, the bulk of the post attacks the techs for their promotion of “digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion, which does not align with Minecraft values of creative inclusion and playing together”.
