Nebraska consumers losing thousands from cryptocurrency scams - NTV

KEARNEY, Neb. — Either by text, email or phone calls, cryptocurrency scammers are using any means they can to commit fraud and steal people’s money. According to a report by the Federal Trade Commission, cryptocurrency scammers have stolen more than $1 billion since 2021.
“Last year, they were the second riskiest scam type that we tracked via BBB scam tracker, and the expectation is that they’ll be the riskiest here in 2022," said Josh Planos, who is the Vice President of Public Relations and Communications of the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
Planos said that the BBB has received dozens of reports in 2022 of scams involving cryptocurrency in Nebraska. He said Nebraska consumers have lost thousands of dollars in 2022 to these types of scams.
"The reason we keep these numbers general is because the vast majority of fraud goes unreported," Planos said. "So if we have, say, 15 reports for a type of scam that impacted $100,000 of consumer money, the reality is that the actual figures...
