This Entrepreneur Is Betting the Future of Retail Runs on the Blockchain and Discord - Bloomberg

If you’re seeking signs about the future of retail, San Francisco’s Hayes Valley is as good a place to look as any. A neighborhood rule banning chain stores with more than 11 outlets means that the kinds of businesses that open there tend to be local boutiques, pop-ups for hype-beasts, or brick-and-mortar outposts of already-ubiquitous online brands, like Allbirds, the slip-on shoe purveyor once infamously favored by techies, and Warby Parker, the millennial eyewear mecca.
A few weeks ago, new signs appeared covering one such coveted Hayes Valley storefront. They explained that soon, something called the DeStore “STORE_0” will open. It will be owned collectively by members of a so-called decentralized autonomous organization. These entities are like crypto’s version of companies, with ownership represented not by an equity stake but through crypto tokens.
