What Is Aptos? The 'Solana Killer' Created by Diem Developers - Decrypt

Founded by developers behind Meta’s Diem blockchain, Aptos' use of a novel transaction ordering method has earned it huge sums from investors.
In the world of smart contract-enabled blockchains—designed for NFTs, DeFi, DAOs, the whole kaleidoscope of blockchain experiments—Ethereum is the OG, but it’s expensive and slow to use.
Solana is the already-aging upstart, faster and buzzier but prone to overpromising and occasionally grinding to a halt.
In 2019, Meta (née Facebook) tried its hand at a blockchain, Libra (subsequently rebranded as Diem), but it was eventually nixed in the face of opposition from regulators.
So the problems remain: How do you build a blockchain that is decentralized, secure, and fast? Is it possible? Inevitably, the successful implementation of one of these variables comes at the expense of another.
